If you have ever been in an evangelistic campaign, you might know that feeling when someone is rude and slam the door in your face when you try to invite him or her to a Gospel Meeting or Bible Study. I remember the words from a brother, “whenever that happens, do not worry, just go and knock on the next door”. In simple words, just keep going.
We do not like it, but we know that happens. You might think that does not occur when the person at the other side of the door (or computer, or phone line) is a Christian. Sadly, it happens. Not as often but happens. It may be the case that you have a great plan to reach out to your community or to do teamwork with a near congregation, and a brother or sister just “slam the door” at your face by telling you, “No, that will not work”. Well, as my brother said, “just go and knock on the next door”.
There have been occasions in which this servant had such a big willingness to work on something with brethren he loves and respects, but their reaction was negative. Those proposals were made having Galatians 6:10 in mind. But no word of advice from them, only rejection. Later on, I learned that, whenever someone turns its back on you, do not worry, there are plenty who are ready to hug you or shake your hand. What do I mean? For every one of those who opposed, there were tens that gladly encouraged and supported what was proposed. Some of them provided sound advice or corrections needed in order to make it work.
When you really want to do what is right in the eyes of God, He will help you, because it is not for vainglory but to His glory, and He will put good people to open that door when you knock.
The apostle Paul to the Christians at Rome wrote,
“And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren”
Romans 8:27-29.
Dear brethren and friends, Christ paid a high price to freed us from sin. He expects those who obeyed Him to be His faithful servants. Servants who are willing to do the work, and not staying with cross-arms complaining and discouraging those who are committed to Christ. Many in this world say that they want to be like Christ, but they do not move a finger to be like Him. First-Century Christians were scattered abroad not to do tourism but to reach souls and let them know of the blessings of being saved. Let us get busy in doing the work that our Lord commanded us to do (Matthew 28:19-20).
Does nobody open the door? Yes, it is sad, maybe in another time, but, right now, let us go, knock on the next one, and do our work.
